Flash Memory: Advantages and Disadvantages

Advantages:
  • Faster read and write compared to traditional hard disk drives.
  • Smaller size.
  • Less prone to damage.
  • Cheaper than traditional drives in small storage capacities.
  • Uses less power than traditional hard disk drives.
Disadvantages:
  • Flash memory cells have a limited number of write and erase cycles before failing.
  • Most flash drives do not have have a write-protection mechanism
  • Smaller size devices, such as flash drives make them easier to lose
  • Currently costs a lot more per gigabyte than traditional hard drives for large storage capacities.
  • May require a special version of a program to run on a flash-based drive to protect from prematurely wearing out the drive.

    Thanks for sharing a very important information. All shoud be very careful while using flash memory. Recently from E4deal I have purchased a F108 64GB USB Flash Memory Drive. It Equip with the USB2.0 transfer interface, support 4-64GB capacity. This also using less power than traditional hard disk drives.

    Good blog and very useful blog for service people. Hard disk issue can cause boot disk failure error and system might not work. We are into Laptop service in Chennai and hard disk issue are very common.
